The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) will be the guest speaker at a formal dinner arranged by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce at the Winter Garden on May 22. The Rev. C. L. Dobbs, vicar of St. Matthew’s Church, St. Albans, since 1948, has been appointed vicar of Southbridge.
Mr C. N. Mackenzie, chairman of the Waipara County Council, was re-elected chairman of Ward 11 of the New Zealand Counties’ Association at the ward’s annual meeting yesterday. Mr W. R. Oliver, chairman of the Selwyn County Council, was reelected deputy chairman.
Dr. G. G. N. Hill, of Dunedin and Mr L. C. Barton, of Hamilton, who have been appointed by UN ESC O to positions in the Institute of Education in Khartoum, will leave today tor briefing In Paris before proceeding to the Sudan.—(PA.)
