J7IVE Canterbury drivers have been selected to participate in this year's Mobilgas economy run, which will start at Nelson on April 11. In class C for cars between 1350 and 1950 c.c. D. Downs, of Christchurch, will drive his Peugeot 403. His co-driver is D. Witham, also of Christchurch. In the same class is the Wolseley 1500 which will be driven by R E. Spicer, with H. A Holden Special, driven by the Christchurch pair. R. M. Moore and I. E. Walker, is one of seven cars competing in class D (1950-3000 c.c.) Mid-Canterbury will be represented by the Morris Minor 1000 driven by F. G. Rickard, of Ashburton, with L. H. Cromie, of Rakaia, as co-driver. A Vanguard Six has been entered by E. W. Wilkinson, of Ashburton. His co-driver is another Ashburton motorist, V. G. Rule. From more than 80 entries received from all parts
of New Zealand, 26 popular car models have been selected to take part in the 1962 run. They include several new models such as the Simca Etoile, Consul 315 (classic), Auston A 60, Vauxhall Victor and the Singer Vogue. As in last year’s run, in which increased miles a gallon figures were returned, all cars will again be driven on 93 octane petrol. The route for the 1962 run
win provide a hard test for drivers. The cars will leave Nelson on the morning of April 11 and drive to Greymouth for an overnight stop. The final leg on April 13 will take the cars to the finishing point in Dunedin.
