Special Conversions
A J ANY special Land-Rover conversions were recently demonstrated to more than 350 fleet owners. Government representatives, and journalists by the Rover Company.
Among the conversions were railway Land-Rovers, one of which, fitted with rail wheels instead of tyres, was capable of pulling two loaded flat trucks weighing more than 50 tons. Another was equipped with a hydraulic inspection platform, while a third could be driven directly from a road on to rails, where special guide wheels were lowered. A further conversion featured a vehicle fully equipped with tracks, and another was a vehicle fitted
with special axles and running on 10 x 28 tractor tyres. Ambulances, fire engines, recovery vehicles, mobile Xray units, and mobile film units were other conversions on display, along with a Land-Rover fitted with a tipping body.
