LORD COBHAM WITH NAVY
Informal Visit To Base (N.Z. Press AMoctnHmO AUCKLAND. March ». New weapons can alter the face of war, but discipline and training are the only things that make them properly effective, the GovernorGeneral (Lord Cobham) told 1000 officers and ratings at the Devonport Naval Base this morning.
Lord Cobham was paying a farewell visit to the base before his term concludes shortly. Because of wet weather the visit was declared informal —no 21 gun Royal Salute was fired nor was there a full scale divisions parade as planned in H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel.
The Governor-General said he was astounded at the newelectronic devices for antiaircraft and anti-submarine combat which he had seen In thanking the Navy for its unfailing loyalty and help during his term, he said he had a high regard for this splendid branch of the NewZealand Armed Forces.
