VETERINARY SCHOOL
First Dean Appointed ( W.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, March 8. Dr. Ira James Cunningham, the Assistant Director-, General of Agriculture, has been appointed dean of the veterinary school which will be set up at Massey College. Dr. Cunningham previously held the appointment of head of the Wallaceville animal research station. It is expected that Dr. Cunningham. who is 56. will take up his appointment at the college in three months time or sooner, if he is released by the Department of Agriculture. When he announced Dr. Cunningham's appointment today, the principal of Massey College (Dr. A. A. Stewart) said the construction of the new veterinary college was expected to start early in 1964 “When he takes up the position, he will go on an overseas tour of veterinary colleges, particularly those in the United States, Canada, Britain and, perhaps, Germany." said Mr Stewart. “On has return, he will draw sketch plans, perhaps, by the end of the year, so that the working drawings of the veterinary school, can go ahead.” Dr. Stewart said that the site for the school at Massey had not yet been decided. Dr. Cunningham has had a distinguished research career. He received world recognition for his research into the nutrition of livestock.
