RACING MARWON FAVOURED FOR TRENTHAM

Waikato Stayer May Win First Leg Marwon and Otematata could win the double for Waikato stables on the first day of the Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meeting at Trentham tomorrow.

Marwon, a five-year-old gelding owned by Mr W. S. Goosman, is the third top-weight with 8-12 in the first leg, the Autumn Handicap.

In the 11-year history of the race, none of the winners has carried more than 8-9. But this year there has been a scaling up of the weights . with a 7-10 minimum because ‘ the entry lacked well-per-formed stayers of the Great • Sensation class. Ruato is the top-weight » with 9-0, and Stipulate is next with 8-13. ; Marwon will be having his third race over the distance for the season. He was third to Great Sensation and Ruato in the Wellington Cup, and ran sixth after being checked in the Auckland Cup. The easing in the ground at Trentham in the last few days might help Marwon more than any of the others. Stipulate, Ruato, Senor and Waitaria will probably be Marwon's strongest rivals. Otematata is the top-weight in the second leg, the £2750 Thompson Handicap, but he should still run out a mile with the best of them. He has a great record at Trentham and track conditions do not appear to be a consideration with him. The South Island will not be represented in the Autumn Handicap, but Llanmai, Vita- . mise and Gay Filou are South Islanders with chances in the Thompson Handicap. Last year LJenmai was second and Vitamise third behind Ursalon in the Thompson Handicap. North Island gallopers have the North Island Challenge Stakes to themselves, but southern sprinters are freely engaged in the £ISOO Railway Handicap, won for Riccarton last year by the brilliant Cadiz. Fields, riders, and form comments follow. *.■>.— NGAIO HIGH-WEIGHT, Of 2800; one mile and three fur lone >•
