The Commons then voted 310 votes to 223 to endorse the Government’s latest defence plans outlined in a White Paper last week. Resuming the debate today the Labour Opposition’s foreign policy spokesman (Mr Wilson) asserted that Britain’s insistence on sticking to her own nuclear deterrent was placing “a fatal bar” on preventing the spread of' nuclear weapons.
