Term Of Office Had Expired (N 2.P.A .-Reuter —Copyright) COLOMBO. March 7. Sir Oliver Goonetilleke. who gave up office on March 1 as Governor-General of Ceylon, was “neither removed from office nor did he resign,” Mr A. P. Jayasuriya, leader of the Ceylon Senate, said today. In the first official statement to the Senate on the matter. Senator Jayasuriya said he was not in a position to say whether Sir Oliver Goonetilleke had been interrogated tn connexion with the recent abortive Ceylonese coup. It was announced in Colombo yesterday that Sir Oliver Goonetilleke was due to leave by air for Paris today. Replying to a question, Mr Jayasuriya said Sir Oliver Goonetilleke had submitted himself voluntarily for interrogation in view of an allegation by the Finance Minister. Mr Felix Dias Bandaranaike. that his name had been mentioned during investigations in to the coup. Senator Jayasuriya said Sir Oliver Goonetilleke’s term of office had expired in June or July last year and he had continued in office until his successor—Mr William Gopallawa—was appointed this month.
