WELLINGTON, March 7. When the liner Dominion Monarch leaves Wellington for the last time next Thursday. one group of New Zealanders will have special cause tor regret These are thg spastic children at the Carlson Hospital. Auckland. The ship’s association with
the spastic children goes back nearly five years. In July, 1957, the Dominion Monarch was in Auckland when it was found that 200 balloons were left over from a party. It was decided to send them to the nearby Carlson Hospital Crew members became Interested in the children. and a special party was arranged for them on board the ship. The Dominion Monarch “adopted” the Carlson Hospital and also a spastic school in Towbridge, England. On each round voyage the crew raised between £3O- - for the hospital at Auckland and the school in Kent, and the children were entertained on board. Now the link is to be broken. The Dominion Monarch is shortly destined for the breakers.
However, her example has been followed by other ships which have “adopted" schools and hospitals.
