Demonstration To Be Held In Square
A man will be “shot” in Cathedral square at 1.15 p.m. on Monday. The shooting, however, will be staged, and is intended to underline the dangers of mishandling firearms. A deerstalker’s car, complete with a deer tied to it, will drive in the Square and stop in front of the Cathedral Two passengers will get out, and one will pass a rifle to the other, who will grasp it by the muzzle. The rifle will discharge, and the deerstalker will fall to the pavement. The “body” will be removed by an ambulance. The incident is part of the Safety With Firearms week, which will start in .Canterbury on March 12. During the week there will also be lectures on safety, demonstrations, and a firearms exhibition, which will be held in the former shop of Harris Brothers in Hereford street Demonstrations and lectures will also be given at several secondary schools.
