OYSTERS IN PROSPECT
Fleet May Sail This Week ( N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, March 5. The southern oyster dispute is likely to be resolved in time for the Bluff fleet to sail on Thursday at the earliest or Sunday at the latest. The chairman (Mr S. W. Armstrong) told a dispute committee formed in Invercargill today that should the parties fail to reach a settlement he would try to advise them of his decision by Wednesday if the committee completed its business tonight or by Friday if the meeting continued tomorrow morning The committee was formed at the suggestion of the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand) who, on request, appointed Mr Armstrong. Conciliation Commissioner, of Christchurch, as independent chairman. Parties in the dispute are the oyster merchants operating from Bluff and the oystermen’s section of the Federated Seamen’s Union, Dunedin branch. The oystermen this afternoon submitted the main part of their case for various increases. The merchants’ case was to be heard tonight oy Mr Armstrong.
