PLANS FOR AWARD OF WOOL PRIZE

MASTERTON. Mardi 5. The South Island finals in Chnstchurch on Wednesday of t-he New Zealand Wool Boards national wool handbag competition are unlikely to affect the award at the end of the 1962 Golden Shears on Saturday to R. D Macdonald, on behalf of Waikato, of the Godfrey Bowen solid silver handpiece. Mr Bowen, present holder of the world sheep Clearing record and field officer of the Wool Board, said this afternoon he bad given the trophy hoping it would became ,- the Ranfurly Shield of the shearing board' 1 The award will be made annually to the dastnct gaining most points in the Golden Shears international shearing championships and the Wool Board's interprovincial wool handling championships. By the end of this year's Golden Shears, Waikato's
position appeared unassailable, said Mr Bowen, and the ‘‘token" award was made in anticipation of the district’s leading position remaining unchallenged in spite of Wednesday's events in Christchurch. For the purposes of the competition, die provinces are: Auckland. Waikato. Gisborne (including Wairoa), Hawke's Bay, Wellington (including Wairarapa and Manawatui, Wanganui < including Taranaki and King Country). Marlborough-Nelson, Canter-bury-West Coast. South Canterbury, Otago and Southland. South Island winners of the young farmers' ?nd open finals on Wednesday will accompany the two winning North Island teams to Australia later this year.
