House That Vanished
(N2. Press A un.—Copyright) LONDON. March 3. Houses were being pulled down left, right and centre in the Queen's road area of the London borough of Camberwell, the "Daily Mail” reported. When th* dust settled, everybody agreed that It was a first-rate job of demolition. Everybody that is. except one man. All he wanted to know was .. . “where is my house?” Camberwell Council began to hav* doubt*. Where had No. 41 Queen's road gone? Then they found out th* terrible truth. No. 41, which had been standing empty, was the heap of rubble between No. 39 and No. 43 and the council did not own the lease. The council ha* agreed to pay the leaseholder £BOO and £22 costs. In the word* of the councillor* responsible for demoli- ! tion work: “ft wa* just one of those things.”
