Kia Ora Scout Den Opened
The Kia Ora Scout Troop’s new den in Auburn avenue. Upper Riccarton, was officially opened by the Canterbury area commissioner (Mr C. W. Hamann) yesterday afternoon. Scouts, their parents and friends filled the den for the opening. Mr Hamann said the den was the scouting home of the boys. He hoped they would regard It with the same reverence as their own homes. The den took 18 months to build. The finance was raised from two Government grants, bottle drives, film evenings and two fairs. It cost £1350. Most of the den was built by the voluntary labour of parents, Rotarians, Jaycees and scouts. It will serve two cub packs and two scout groups. The scouts presented the chairman of the group committee (Mr F. Prebble) and the treasurer (Mr G. Jones) with scout thanks badges for their work during the construction.
The Canterbury Squadron of the Legion of Frontiersmen presented the troop with a stag’s head and a set of field telephones.
