Selwyn Huts Road

Sir, —As a user I would like to draw attention to the condition of the road between the upper and lower Selwyn Huts. In dry weather, with an easterly wind blowing, traffic turns it ipto something resembling an atomic testing

ground. Clouds of dust blow over the bank, causing great

inconvenience and discomfort to anglers, boaters, and picnickers. In wet weather the road becomes a mud bath for the care using it Full marks must go to the president and the committee of the Lower Selwyn Hut-own-ers’ Association for their independent and sensible action in spreading oil on the road in front of their community. Waste oil costs little, if anything, and provides a good binding medium. It would not involve a great outlay in time or money for the Springs County Council to treat the whole road in a similar manner, and I commend it to their consideration and action. —Youre, etc., DUSTBOWL February 23, 1962. [The Springs County Clerk (Mr S. L Boon) replied that the road in question had never been recognised by the council as a legal road.]
