TALKS ON TRUCE
Cloak Of Secrecy (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter — Copyright) PARIS, Mar. 4. Preparations for the final stage of the French-Algerian peace talks continued yesterday in an atmosphere of secrecy and confusion. French Government sources indicated early yesterday that a secret phase of the final talks would start today at a new rendezvous near the Swiss frontier.
But an apparently semiofficial report by the French news agency said the official conference would start at Evian - les - Bains, in the French Alps, on Tuesday, Behind these apparently contradictory but inspired reports lies the Government’s determination to complete the negotiations in the same privacy as they were started a fortnight ago. Sources close to the Government said last night that four or five days of secret talks would be needed to “fill in the blanks” left in the military and political agreements.
Police clamped strong security precautions on the Evian region.
