Australian Test Dates

The English cricket team to tour New Zealand after Australia, will play more country matches in Australia than in past tours. The English team will arrive in Perth on October 9 this year and begin its tour with a match against a Western Australian country XI.

The test match dates have been fixed by the Australian Board of Cricket Control and other match dates will be confirmed later. The English team will travel to New Zealasd after the fifth test, due to begin in Sydney on February 15 and lasting to February 20. The complete programme has not been fixed for Australia yet because England has requested an additional match near the end of its tour.

The test dates are: Brisbane, November 30 to December 5. Melbourne, December 29 to January 3. Sydney, January 11 to January 16, Adelaide, January 25 to January 30. Sydney, February 15 to February 20.

A crowd of about 200. one of the biggest to watch the New Zealand cricket side practice on its tour, appeared today when the team had net practice in preparation for the fifth test on Friday. The New Zealand captain, J. R Reid, supervised the practice but did not bat. The New Zealanders were helped by six local fast and medium-fast bowlers P. T. Barton, who was injured fielding in the fourth test, batted with his shoulder strapped, but looked comfortable. He will have another practice tomorrow, but a decision will not be made until the New Zealand team is picked on the morning of the test. Gate Receipts From S.A. Tour (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) PORT ELIZABETH. Feb. 14 New Zealand’s share of gate receipts on the South African tour so far was £14.000. Mr J. G. Leggat, manager of the touring team said today. This figure did not include the takings for the two games at East London, one each at Pietermaritzburg and Kokstad He added the cost of the whole tour, including two matches in Australia next month, was estimated at £26 000. “Gates have been disappointing and the loss of Boxing Day in the second test and the fourth day of the fourth test were owing to bed luck in the first case and bad cricket in the second,” he said.
