Record Meat Production
New Zealand meat production reached a record carcase weight of 757,700 tons in the 1960-61 season, according to th? Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker). This figure is nearly 5000 tons higher than for the previous season.
Record lamb killings are reflected in the production totals for lamb, which at 281,100 tons are 9400 tons up on the previous season. The outout of veal increased by 1100 tons, while pigmeat, beef, and mutton decreased by 1190 tons, 800 tons, and 900 tons respectively on the previous season’s output.
The annual consumption of meat at 231.91 b a head in 1960-61 was 5.41 b below that for the previous year.
