MOA-HUNTER SITE

The first moa-hunter site to be established from the West Coast had been found near the mouth of the Heaphy river last November, the director of the Canterbury Museum (Dr. R S Duff) told a meeting of the Museum Trust Board yesterday The site was known from trips in 1958 and 1959 Artifacts found on the latest trin included a nerfect hog-back adze of grey argillite, the blade of a similar adze and three small adzes With further excavation olanned. said Dr Duff, chance visitors should be asked to respect the site and report, any articles found on the surface to the museum.
