MAGISTRATES IN CHRISTCHURCH
“Position Will Be Reviewed”
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Feb. 13.
The Justice Department has no intention of making an immediate appointment of an additional stipendiary magistrate in Christchurch. “The most we can do at present is to watch the situation and provide reliefs where necessary," said the Secretary for Justice (Dr. J L. Robson) this afternoon. “The position will be reviewed. but not before the end of the year.” Mr L S. J. Crutchley was transferred to Christchurch from Invercargill before the senior magistrate (Mr R Ferner) went on sabbatical leave before his retirement later this year This kept the Christchurch figure at three magistrates. At present, Mr N. M. Izard, from Timaru, spends one week a month in Christchurch. and a similar service will be performed by another I magistrate.
