NEW TESTING STATION
Approval Of Proposal
Authority to issue warrants of fitness held by garages in the counties of Paparua and Waimairi. and in the borough of Riccarton. would be withdrawn if the proposed testing station was set up at Sockburn. The Transport Department gave this advice in a letter to the Paparua County Council.
“This is the approval of the Minister to the establishment of the vehicle testing station,” said the elerk (Mr A Kelly). “It will be necessary now to convene a meeting with a view to taking the project to a further stage," he said The new station would cause a “big upheaval,” and a “lot of disruption.” said Cr R S Meyer. Many motorists would have to drive a long way instead of “dropping down to the local garage,” he said. “There is nothing to stop those in outlying areas from going to the garage over the fence,” Cr. R. F. Lockhead said.
