C.F.M. YEAR

Annual Meeting

The annual general meeting of trie Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, Ltd., was held on Tuesday, February 13, when the directors’ report and statement of accounts as printed were received and adopted and the directors’ recommendation for dividends was approved. In speaking to the report and statement of accounts, the chairman, Mr L. D. Cotterill, said that he wished to correct the chairman’s report where it was erroneously stated that Mr John Deans’s No. 1 Southdown Stud had been dispersed, whereas actually it was still in existence, 99 years after it was founded.

Referring to current trading conditions, the Chairman said that present prices were showing some margin over costs but that there was a big weight of meat due to arrive in the United Kingdom in the next few weeks and prices, particularly for light weights, showed some tendency to weaken. He drew attention to the fact that although the freezing charge had been increased. the lighter weights meant that there would be little improvement in the processing accounts this year unless there was a substantial increase in killings. The retiring directors, Messrs L D. Cotterill, S. E. Mair and J. A. G. Fulton were re-elected to the board. The auditors, Messrs Stewart, Beckett and Company continue in office for a further twelve months. Mr C. A. E. Ferguson moved a vote of thanks to the directors, management and staff. This was seconded by Mr J. N. Crawford and carried.

rhe chairman expressed his thanks on behalf of the directors, and Mr R. D. Iles, the general manager, on behalf of the management and staff. (Extended report by arrangement.)
