OFFICIAL REPORT

The official report issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers' Association in conjunction with the Wooibuyers’ Association and the Wool Commission of New Zealand states:—

"The first section of the fourth Christchurch wool sale was held yesterday at the Repertory Theatre when a total of 26.372 bales was submitted A further 25.638 bales will be offered on Friday

"The bulk of the wools came from Canterbury and Blenheim districts, but included a fair ouantitv from Nelson and the West Coast. Ewe wools formed the bulk of the offering, the balance being mainly shorn hogqets and lambs' wool with a sprinkling of second-shear The condition generally was rather disappointing and though there were a fair number of quite attractive lines a big percentage of the offering was showing a fair amoum of dust and discolour" tion and was inclined to be rather heavy in condition A little seed and dry volk were apparent but this was not a maior fault

"Lambs’ wool showed a considerable variation but was up to its usual standard, though many lines were inclined to be short in the staple owing to the drv conditions since lambing

"The sale opened on a very firm note with keen and fairly general competition from a full bench of buyers. Continents buyers were very active but competition was well spread with local mills and Japan competing freelv for the better fine qualities Bradford was com paratively quiet. “As compared with the recent Wellington sale all crossbred? were selling in seller's favour Halfbreds and Merinos can be quoted as 2J per cent higher than at the last fine wool sale in Timaru. while lambs’ wool and pieces sold freely at very firm prices There was almost a complete clearance at auction ” The following is the range of prices
