Warfare At Wingatui “The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, February 13. Warfare, a candidate for the Central Improvers’ Handicap at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday, was the most Impressive trial worker at Wingatui this morning. Most of the work was held In heavy rain. The trestles were 50ft out on the course proper, and the track was cutting out. The weather cleared later in the morning. Warfare (R. J. Pledger) had the best of the weights w-hen accompanied by Stormai (H. J. Powell), but he appeared to be galloping well within himself when they finished on terms at the end of five furlongs in Imin 6 4-ssec, the last three furlongs in 41 4-ssec. Warfare has drawn one of the outside barrier stalls on Saturday. Myfllou (H. T. Anderton) and Stephanie Rose (B. J. Anderton) were together in Imin 9sec. Lucerna (A. Hastie) and Reshine (C. W. Campbell) finished on terms in Imin 8 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in ,42 2-ssec. Crackle (R. J. Pledger) and Some Wonder (C. Clydesdale) were not hurried in Imin lOsec, the first two furlongs in 26sec. Strategy (R. J. Pledger) and Palisade (C. Clydesdale) were given a similar task in Imin llsec after taking 28sec for the opening two furlongs. Idle Prince (A. Ilastie) and Goldsmith Maid (A. Tweedie) ran the first furlong in 13 3-ssec. and completed half a mile in 54 2-ssec. Arnurna (A. Tweedie) went over the same ground in 55sec. Sudd el Nil (R. Mackie) sprinted home the la,st three furlongs in 40 2-ssec, and Happy Link (E. J. Didham) completed a round of pacework in 40 3-ssec.
On the inside grass, Napra, ridden by his trainer, A. I Powell, covered five furlongs in Imin 9sec. and looked as if he could have improved on his effort. Rhu (R. A. Low), an acceptor for the Taieri Hurdles, failed to get a qualification ticket. The Lo Zingaro mare Is usually a good jumper, but she slipped and fell at the first fence w’hen schooling with Hunted (B. P. Kennedy). She will attempt to qualify again on Thursday.
