Five Children Injured When Bus Leaves Road

AUCKLAND, Feb. 13.
Thirty-six school children, many suffering from cuts, bruises and shock, scrambled from the school-bus taking them to Warkworth High School after it rolled into a ditch on the WarkworthKaipara Flats road this morning.
Five children were taken to Warkworth for treatment by two doctors but others suffered only minor abrasions. Those treated were: Graham Adolph, aged 8: Yvonne Hawken, aged 18: Shirley Edmonds, aged 15; Edna Dally, aged 15: and Ngaire Berger, aged 15. Children cried and crawled about the upturned vehicle but a young teacher. Miss Cushla Irvine, prevented the confusion growing to a panic. The driver. Mr S. C. Grubb, of Warkworth, opened the emergency door and helped the children out. When the children and the teacher finally got clear of the bus,
which was on its side, in a ditch six feet deep, the children began unloading books satchels and lunches. Mrs W. Davie-Martin, of Kaipara Flats, arrived just after the accident and took the injured children to a doctor. The others sat down to recover from the shock and wait for another bus. Most of the children carried on to school and apart from being shaken and very late, carried on with lessons A senior pupil suffering from shock was taken to a doctor later in the afternoon
Cars Collide.—John Alfred Sullivan, of 194 Keyes road New Brighton, was treated for minor head injuries and discharged from the Christchurch Hospital, after his car collided with another on the comer of Armagh street and Fitzgerald avenue, about 6.20 p.m. yesterday. The other car was driven by Winifred Mary Blackaby, of 282 Kilmore street.
