The Royal Family
Sir, —For the third, and last time, I asseverate that the Queen sets an exemplary tone in public life, and that on that premise this correspondence began. For Mr Heal, the term ‘‘limited monarchy.” however “immature,” has described the political set-up in England for the last 300 years. For “Democracy First” (who, I note, has taken a Heaven-sent opportunity to air a private grievance against “The Press”) I would say that my quotation was from “Animal Farm.” a political satire written by a socialist who loved the common man but had a poor opinion of his judgment “Loyal Subject” assails me for not ignoring the flood of irrelevant criticism let loose by my letter. Does it demonstrate loyalty first- to run away from the violators of one's principles? In this modern War of the Roses we are evidently on opposite sides. With all good wishes to those correspondents who' have tried to stick to the point I now take my leave of buzzing hornets, inconsequent hobby-horses, and all the other lesser fauna who have done their best to bedevil this correspondence.— Yours, etc., I. TREW. February 13, 1962.
