FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A depression is moving away southeastwards in the area south-east of the South Island; an anti-cyclone is moving eastwards over the western Tasman Sea. Forecast:—

Canterbury and Kaikoura Coast.—Moderate winds from a southerly quarter predominating; rather cloudy and cool with scattered showers, especially about the coasts. West Coast.—Moderate south-west winds predominating; a few scattered showers in Buller; otherwise partly cloudy; mild afternoon temperatures. Marlborough (except the Kaikoura coast) and Nelson.—Moderate to fresh west to south-west winds predominating; a few scattered showers in the ranges; otherwise partly cloudy, w’ith moderate temperatures.
