The £ gained more than J cent on the Canadian dollar last week, and nearly J cent on the United States dollar. Sterling was also firmer in relation to most of the principal European currencies. Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates, as advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales, are as follows: New Zealand on— New York: Buying. 2 8099 dollars to ENZ.I (compared with 2 8078 on February 5); selling, 2 7781 dollars (2.7760). Montreal: 2.9478 dollars (2 9419); 2.9101 dollars (2.9041) Austria: 72 80 schillings (72.77); 71.32 schillings (71.29). Belgium: 142 03 francs (14193); 137.50 francs (137.40). Denmark: 19.62 crowns (19.60); (8 94 crowns (18.92). France: 13 89 francs (13.88); 13 51 francs (13.50). Italy: 1750 lire (1749); 1715 lire (1714). Japan: 1021 yen (1020); 996 yen (same) Netherlands: 10.27 guilders (10 26); 19.61 guilders (19 60). Sweden: 14.62 crowns (14.61); 14.28 crowns (14-27).
