Derek Chapman, a Blenheim swimmer. aged 32, said this morning that he would attempt to swim Cook Strait at the next neap tide (March 3 to 5), weather permitting. Chapman does his training in the tidal currents at the Wairau bar and plans to do more distance swimming in Queen Charlotte Sound. He is making arrangements with a local fisherman to pilot him over a similar course as Miss Margaret Sweeney, from Wellington Head to Ohau Point.
