SUM OF £1800 RECOVERED
Dug Up In Garden At Tahunanui (From Our Own Reporter) NELSON, Feb. 12. A, tin box containing £lBOO was dug up today from the back garden of a Tahunanui property occupied by Norman William Street, former managei of the Tahuna Camp Canteen, who was sentenced to a month's imprisonment last Friday on a charge of giving false information concerning the alleged theft of £2300 from the canteen on January 2.
Acting on voluntary information given by Street, the president of the Nelson Returned Services' Association, Mr K. J. Strange, accompanied by Street’s solicitor, Mr R A. Fletcher, dug for two hours in the Green street garden without success. A mine detector and an operator, lent by the Nelson City Council, recovered the tin box at 11 45 a m.
The money, confirmed by Nelson police to be £lBOO. was deposited in a city bank. Mr Strange said he wished to thank the Nelson police for their kindness and co-opera-tion in this matter.
