ARREST IN POLAND
N.Z. Man For Trial
(NZ Press AModation) WELLINGTON, Feb. 11
The Prime Minister (Mr Hoiyoake) today told of the details which led to the arrest of Mr A. R. Wilson, a New Zealander who is in custody in Poland. “This case arose out of a fight which occurred in Poznan on January 18,” Mr Holyoake said. “It appears that several Poles were injured, including a Polish militiaman. Mr Wilson was subsequently detained.
“The latest information received by me yesterday shows that the date of the trial—which was previously not set—is now likely to be February 15. “My information shows that the normal Polish laws for the type of assault for which Mr Wilson is likely to be charged as a result of the incident are stringent by comparison with our own.” Mr Holyoake added that Mr Wilson has been seen by the British Consul in Poland. He was fit and well and had already had a meeting with an English-speaking Polish lawyer. The British representatives in Poland would continue to assist.
