WEATHER IN JANUARY

High Average Temperature January was warm, dry and sunny, and the average temperature for the month, of 65.6 degrees, was the second highest on record, according to the Meteorological Office’s report for the month. Records were started in 1905. Temperatures over 80 degrees were recorded on 12 days, the highest being 92.2 degrees at the Botanic Gardens on January 12. The lowest daily maximum was 64 degrees on January 7. Sunshine was also high, 232 hours being recorded, compared with the average of 218 hours.

Usually more rain is recorded at the Botanic Gardens than at the airport in January, but this year it was the other way about; 1.89 in were recorded at the airport, which is about normal, while 1.69 in were recorded in the gardens—well below the average of 2.14 in. Most of the rain was made up of overnight falls on January 1 and 13, o.BBin being recorded on the former.
