TWICKENHAM RESULT
England Beat Ireland, 16-0
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. February 10
England beat Ireland by 16 points to 0 in their Rugby union international match at Twickenham today. Ireland's team of young hopeful failed against England's purposeful attacking in a fast, open game which had more enthusiasm than science. R. Sharp, England’s lanky, fair-haired fly-half, was the star of the match, scoring 11 points. He ran himself into the ground in an endeavour to get the best out of a stereotyped England three-quarter line. All eyes were on Ireland's teenage half-backs, G. Gilpin, 19. and J. Quirke, 17. but they were never given a chance to show their true worth.
S. Hodgson dominated the scrums to such an extent that he outhooked Ireland's J. Dick by 24-14. Against the loose head, the tally was nine to two. Ireland’s pack, containing five new caps, showed little of their traditional fire, with the result that England were able to do most of the attacking.
