Spearfishing ROTORUA TRIO CHAMPIONS
I. Nillson Top Individual ( N.Z. Press Association) KAIKOHE, February 10. A Rotorua threesome, R. Curel, D. Reynolds and W. Jones, won the team championship. and I. Nillson (Hastings) ttie individual championship, at the New Zealand Spearfisbing Association’s first annual national championships held in the Bav of Islands on Saturday The visiting New Caledonian representative actually scored the highest individual and team points, but could not qualify for championship honours and trophies because they were not resident New Zealanders. Conditions were perfect, underwater visibility ranging from 20-30 ft There were 64 contestants from 20 clubs. The New Caledonian spearmen had a total of 269.75 points, 48.75 points ahead of Rotorua. S. Camerlynke (New Caledonia) scored 160 points. Results:— Individual Championship.— I. Nillson (Hastings). 117 5 points. !;• R L. Spurdie (Wanganui). 101, 2; P. Johnson (Reefcombere. Auckland), 88 5. 3. Team Championship. Rotorua B, 221 points, 1; Reefcambers (Auckland), 168.5, 2; Canterbury A 162, 3.
