Nillson (Hastings) ttie individual championship, at the New Zealand Spearfisbing Association’s first annual national championships held in the Bav of Islands on Saturday The visiting New Caledonian representative actually scored the highest individual and team points, but could not qualify for championship honours and trophies because they were not resident New Zealanders. Conditions were perfect, underwater visibility ranging from 20-30 ft There were 64 contestants from 20 clubs. The New Caledonian spearmen had a total of 269.75 points, 48.75 points ahead of Rotorua.
