Presentation To McDonald
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH. Feb. 11.
After the first day of the Westland Racing Club's summer meeting at Hokitika on Saturday, several owners, trainers and jockeys assembled in the stewards’ room where a monetary presentation was made to R. S. McDonald. the apprentice jockey who lost his right eye in an accident on the Kumara Racing Club’s course last month.
Mr J. B. Hood, president of the Westland Club, expressed the deepest regret of all racing supporters that the injury had resulted in a termination of McDonald’s career as a jockey. He said that a subscription list had been opened by the Westland Club at its meeting two days after the Kumara meeting. ThJ result was a cheque for £132 13s 9d. which, with cash donations received in the room yesterday. brought the total to more than £l4O.
In making the preservation. Mr W H. Stewart, president of the Kumara club, expressthe hope that it would help McDonald to establish nimself in whatever occupation he took up in the future.
