The Wingatui trainer, W. J. Hewitt, and the Central Otago owner-breeder, D. M. Kelly, had an unfortunate trip to the Gore Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday.
Master Dalmain scored a decisive win in the Apprentices' Junior Hack Handicap but was disqualified for the race when the stable apprentice, C. Campbell, failed by Ijlb to make the weight. Birthright. Game Bid and Lightning Girl were promoted to the placing® Campbell was subsequently charged with causing interference to Birthright near the half-furlong when his mount ran in under pressure, but the charge was dismissed.
Master Dalmain's dividend was posted as £9 5s and £3 3s.
Later in the day Dalmain, a half-sister to Master Dalmain, which is also trained by Hewitt for Mr Kelly, was withdrawn from the Farewell Handicap. Hewitt reported that the mare had been interfered with in her box at the Show Ground. After she had been inspected by a veterinary surgeon and samples taken, her connexions withdrew her from her engagement.
