Cameron, aged 20. of Raumatl. made a fast swim from Paraparaumu Beach to Kapiti Island on Saturday escorted by two eraft from the Kapiti boating club His time through the slightly ehoppy thrce-and-a-half mile a’rait was Ihr 48min. believed to be a record for the crossing.
A well-known swimmer *n Wellington and a member of the Raumati South and Paekakariki surf clubs. Cameron intended to attempt the return trip but abandoned the plan due to a delayed start, which meant he would have had to contend with strong ebb tides. He was also troubled by salt water affecting his eyes.
