Nepalese Rebellion “Smashed”

KATMANDU (Nepal), February 11. “Anti-national elements” which had seized control of three places in south Nepal had been smashed, the Nepalese Home Minister (Dr. Tulsl Giri) announced last night. He said the Army, had the situation under control. Dr. Giri said the rebels took control of Thori on the Indian-Nepal border southwest of Katmandu and later seized Narayangarh and Bharatpur in the same area. He said some persons had been injured in the fighting and some arrested. Full details were still awaited. The rebel elements had been scattered and had fled, he said. Dr. Giri's statement was made after reports on Friday that troops were being rushed
to the Bharatpur area. Unconfirmed report* yesterday said the trouble seemed the most serious so far faced by the Government of the Himalayan mountain kingdom since rebel* hostile to King Mahendra began guerrilla activities last December. Mr Fanfani. aged 54, Prime Minister for the last 17 months until he resigned a week ago, accepted the invitation on condition that he was able to put together a workable government.
