N.Z. BLADE SHEARING
Twenty - seven entries have been received for the New Zealand blade shearing championships which will be held at Canterbury Court on March 7. While the blade shearers come mainly from Canterbury there are competitors from as far afield as Queenstown and Blenheim. Entrants include the Karaitiana brothers who were to the fore in the Golden Shears blade shearing contest at Masterton last year.
Competitors will each shear during the day and the top shearers will come forward to contest the final in the evening.
The Christchurch central shearing and woolhandling committee, which is organising the contest, is giving a first prize of £lOO, a second prize of £5O, and a third prize of £25. The Wool Board is giving a gold medal for the competition. The blade shearing is being held in conjunction with the South Isladd final of the open and Young Farmers’ Club team shearing and woolhandling competition, which in each case carries as first prize a trip to Australia provided by the Wool Board,
