£6m to be Spent On Expansion

(N.Z, Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Feb. 9. G. J. Coles and Company, Ltd., will spend more than £6 million, this year, expanding its 250 chain stores and supermarkets. The joint managing director (Mr L. R. Robinson) said today this was part of the company’s scheme to build a ring of , ‘A-class” variety stores around Sydney. The company would spend £4 million on variety chain stores and £2 million on supermarkets throughout Australia. Good Half Year Mr Robinson said the Coles group had completed a satisfactory half year’s trading and directors were "delighted” with the results of the major stores. Trading had been well up to expectations. He added that the planned expansion was “the most ambitous yet tackled by the company.” Coles already has announced a scheme to, build 22 new supermarkets throughout Australia.
