PRISON FIRE AT AUCKLAND
Police Making Investigation (N.Z. Pres* Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 8. Fire damaged a storage hut , at the single men’s staff I quarters of the Auckland , Prison this afternoon. The blaze is believed to i have been started by someone throwing a lighted match . through an open window, and ' detectives are investigating . the possibility that it could , have been done deliberately. Firemen quickly extin- ’ guished the blaze. Furniture and other materials , were damaged, but the suj perintendent of the prison • (Mr H. V. Haywood) said . that nothing of any conse- . quence had been burned. The single men’s quarters are situated just outside the i prison wall. I
