ELECTIONS IN RUSSIA

Voroshilov To Be Candidate

(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright j MOSCOW. February 7. Marsha! Kliment! Voroshilov, the 81-year-old former Soviet President who was attacked at the 22nd Soviet Communist Party congress for joining the “anti-party” group, was nominated today as candidate for the Soviet general election on March 18.

Marshal Voroshilov confessed and apologised at the congress for joining the group which plotted to seize power from Mr Khrushchev in 1957. The Soviet leader forgave him, but since then he has been slighted by his former colleagues on several public occasions.

His name appeared among one of the lists of candidates officially issued tonight.

The list said that he had been nominated as candidate for election to the Supreme Soviet for the electoral area of Kashira, about 75 miles from Moscow. He was nominated by the workers of the Kashira power station. At the last election, in 1058, Marshal Voroshilov stood for the Kirov district of Leningrad, a nomination which carried very much more prestige.

Under the Soviet electoral procedure a candidate once nominated is virtually certain of being elected. Marsnai Voroshilov was attacked in "Red Star,” the organ of the Defence Ministry, today for distorting the truth on Stalin's role in the civil war in a booklet published in 1929.
