Reductions To Be Sought

(NX Press Association) BLENHEIM, Feb. 9. The Marlborough Chamber of Commerce last night expressed the opinion that the fares and freight charges announced for the Cook Strait car-rail ferry, Aramoana, are far too high. "Unless they make the charges reasonable, there will be little support for the Aramoana,” said Mr C. C. Saunders, who described the charges for cars as “exhorbitant.”

The chamber decided to combine with the Picton Chamber in presenting a case for a reduction in the announced fares and charges. It will also write to the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) expressing disappointment that it was not asked to comment on the charges before they were announced.
