Escape From Nelson Gaol
/From Our Own Reporter, NELSON February 9.
Peter Meyers, aged 20, who was today sentenced with a companion to Borstal training on three chargee of breaking and entering, by Mr G A Nicholls, S.M., in the Nelson Magistrate's Court, escaped from the Nelson gaol at 740 p.m. today The Nelson gaoler is at present on holiday Senior-Sergeant A. M. McCallum said he did not know how the man escaped. Road blocks have been set up on tie main road from Nelson to Blenheim but Meyers is believed to be in the Nelson area.
The youth was one of two who were to join the Army soon
The Magistrate said in Court that for their own sake the two youths should have the discipline their families could not give them.
