Entertainment Next Week

When the New Zealand Institution of Engineers holds Its annual conference in Christchurch next week, about 200 wives will accompany the delegates. Responsibility for entertaining the wives rests with the women's committee of the local branch. The committee has arranged for flowers to be placed in hotel rx>ms as a welcoming gesture.

The conference will be opened next Monday in the main hall of the University of Canterbury by the Minister of Transport fMr McAltrine).

Two scenic trips have been arranged for the wives. One will give visitors the opportunity to see the airport and the prize-winners from the various garden competitions The other is an all-day trip to Akaroa which includes a trip on the harbour Next Wednesday mornins tours of a cake factory and a worsted mill have been arranged. During the afternoon wives will be able to attend a demonstration in beauty culture. Outstanding feature of the women's programme is the convention ball on Thursday evening. That morning there will be a visit to the planetarium and museum, and in the afternoon an invitation to tea with members at the university Visit to Works On Friday the wives have been invited to accompany their husbands on visits to works. An all-day trip to Benmore hydro-electric works has been arranged or delegates may take a round trip which includes visits to a mattress and camping equipment factory, and Lincoln College with the return by way of Gebbies Pass and the southern Summit road.
