Music

Sir,—Like the old-time “barker,” the modern ad. man employs noise to attract and bemuse his victims. Hence his addiction to “pop” tunes. Of course we can always switch off. In a community educated in musical appreciation, on the lines suggested by Professor Ritchie, so many would switch off that “pop” tunes would be sent to an appropriate destination: and the hucksters, even, would recognise the value of good taste.—Yours, etc., H.J.E.
