UNDER-23 TEAM SELECTED
Nelson Opening Batsman Omitted (N.Z. Preu Association) NELSON. February 7. The Nelson all-rounder, I. R. Hampton, has been included in the Central Districts’ under-23 team to play in the sponsored cricket tournament at Wellington next week. M. Henderson, the Nelson opening batsman, who also was nominated, has not been selected. The team is: G. Hermansson (captain), D Millburn, P Maunder (Manawatu), D. Crisp, J Litchfield (Marlborough). I. Woon (Hawke’s Bay), W Murdock, B Prestidge, J Smith (Taranaki) B. Furlong (Southern Hawke's Bay). I. R. Hampton (Nelson), R. Davies (Wairarapa). The manager will be Mr S. Suckling, of New Plymouth.
The selectors appointed to choose a national under-23 team from the tournament, which will be contested by teams from the six Plunket Shield Associations, are Messrs H. W Osborn (Wellington), D D Taylor (Auckland), M. Barnett (Northern Districts), and C. W. Welham (Otago). Indians Begin Tour (N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) PORT OF SPAIN (Trinidad), February 6. Two batsmm, the Nawab of Pataudi and V. Manjrekar. are early casualties on the Indian team’s tour of the West Indies. The Nawab of Pataudi. who has a pulled muscle, and Manjrekar. who was not well, did not field after lunch on the first day of the Indians' opening match against Trinidad Colts. The touring side entered the second and final day’s play today with 62 for two in reply to the colts' 237 for nine declared.
