SELWYN HUTS PROBLEM
Dogs Fouling Lawns
Unwranped food gone maggoty in rubbish bins and dogs fouling lawns at the Selwyn Huts have been giving concern to the caretaker and subsequently to the Springston South Domain Board. A letter from the Hut Owners’ Association to the board asked whether something could not be done about both matters, which were giving concern to the caretaker whose job It was to collect the rubbish tins and cut the lawns. The chairman of the board. Mr H. B. Duckworth, said the problem was one that hut owners dealt with themselves. The most that the board could do immediately would be to circularise owners suggesting th -y take more care In wrapping refuse put in bins and asking them to >eep better control of their dogs. Mr Duckworth said It was a standing problem. Persons often took their pets to the huts while on holiday there, rather than send them to kennels.
Another member of the board said there had be*n quite a gathering of pe's •hrnugh'’ut the recent holidays. Normally, he sard, the huts were very clean, as there was not much of a problem with animals. But the particular recent problem had been really shocking. and he fully sympathised with the caretaker in the matter.
The board members left the secretary and the chairman to draft a letter to hut owners stating that if they did not do something about it the board might find Itself having to prohibit dogs in the area.
