HYPNOTHERAPIST CHARGED

Over £l6B Stolen From Hotel

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 2.

‘Hie theft of £l6B 10s and a radio valued at £26 10s from Nelson hotels was admitted by an unemployed hypnotherapist, James Drummond McKechnie, 50. in the Magistrate’s Court today. He was remanded by Mr R. D Jamieson. S.M., for a probation officer's report and sentence.

McKechnte had taken the £l6B 10s from an unlocked drawer in the office of the Central Hotel, Nelson, on the night of January 29 while the licensee’s wife was absent for a few moments, said the prosecutor. Inspector H. J. Squire.

McKechnie had posted the money in two envelopes to a man at Wellington. Interviewed by the C. 1.8. at Wellington yesterday he had admitted the theft, and £l5O was recovered from the envelopes. McKechnie had also admitted stealing a radio from another hotel at Nelson. The -adio was recovered.

The Magistrate said McKechnie “certainly had a list’’ of previous convictions, but none since 1940.
