CHARRINGTONS DROP PLANS
No Move Now Into Melbourne
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, February 2. The London brewers. Charrington and Company. Ltd , had shelved plans to open a brewery in Melbourne, the company’s Australian representative (Mr N Grave) said today. Mr Grave said he learned of this decision in a telephone talk last evening with the chairman of directors (Mr J Charringiton)
Mr Charrineton was quoted as saying failure of his company to buy the Richmond Brewery in Melbourne bad virtually put an end to present plans to move into Melbourne
Charringtons had hoped to buy and modernise Richmond Brewery so it could use the established chain of Richmond-owned hotels as a ready-made outlet for its beer. These plans were forestalled last month when Carlton and United Breweries. Ltd, bought all the fixed assets of the Richmond Brewing Company. Proprietary, Ltd., for an undisclosed amount.
